The adventure route to Big Sur is offered in two separate route options.

Ragged Point Route - Half Day: This adventure tour will take you through many landscapes that will delight your senses. Beginning with a quick jaunt through downtown Paso Robles, you will soon be in wine country heading towards the coast on Green Valley Road. As you journey to the coast along the curvy road, you will notice a change in the climate. This region of California has temperate weather conditions year-round; however, we recommend being prepared with layered clothing. Don't worry, we'll keep you informed of the weather forecasts. As you drive North on PCH, the hidden seaside village of Cambria welcomes you. Cambria is situated amidst Monterey pine trees. Monterey pines are native to California and this region is the only place they naturally thrive in the United States. Cambria's quaint town is wonderful to take a break and enjoy the historic architecture and the small-town vibe. On the north end of Cambria is Moonstone Beach Park, a dramatic section of coastline with sandy beaches.

Continuing, travel north into San Simeon, where the famous Hearst Castle is located. This incredible feat of architectural genius began being constructed over 100 years ago, as it was then known as "La Cuesta Encantada" (The Enchanted Hill). Although Hearst Castle is not directly on this tour route, it is available to tour. If you wish to tour the Castle, then please contact us for advisable options. The San Simeon Pier stands above a beautiful sandy beach, which is available for a leisurely stroll before leaving the small beach town.

Coming next is an exclusive relaxing beach that attracts visitors from around the world. Elephant Seal Vista Point is a must-see. These majestic sea creatures can be viewed up close and personal. Enjoy a walk along the purpose-built viewing boardwalk and be sure to read the educational signage brought to you by the good people of "Friends of the Elephant Seals."

Next up is the Piedras Blancas Light Station, a glimpse into our nation's history when lighthouses served a vital role in ocean navigation. Piedras Blancas is now managed as a historic park and wildlife sanctuary. Open public access is not available. However, select guided tours are offered. If you wish to tour the Light Station, then please contact us for advisable options.

The rocky coastal headland of Ragged Point lies within the southernmost portion of Big Sur. Ragged Point, often called the "million-dollar view," is a perfect pit stop. There are several scenic views and photo opportunities. Enjoy lunch at the clifftop restaurant located a couple of miles north of the Point. This is the turn-around location for the Big Sur Ragged Point adventure tour.

Big Sur North Route - Full Day: This adventure is highly recommended for driving enthusiasts. The tour includes everything on the Ragged Point Hwy 1 North adventure tour, and then some more, a lot more!

As the tour heads north on PCH from Ragged Point, the adventure intensifies. The vista points become more incredible, the trees become larger as the forests fill in, the road curves and twists along cliffside mountains adjoining the Pacific ocean and the smiles will grow with excitement.

Take time to visit Salmon Creek Falls and Nathaniel Owens Memorial Redwood Grove. You will pass through Mud Creek, the site of the largest recorded landslide along the Big Sur coast. In 2017, more than 6 million cubic yards of dirt and rocks slid down the hillside, completely wiping out a large section of Highway 1.

Continuing through Gorda, a small unincorporated seaside community, you'll find awesome vistas at Willow Creek Beach and McWay Cove Beach. McWay Waterfall is a famously photographed viewpoint you do not want to miss seeing.

As you enter the heart of Big Sur, look up and enjoy the tall top trees. This is a good place to enjoy a meal at one of the many restaurants and cafes. The final northbound portion of this grand tour takes you to the iconic Bixby Creek Bridge. This photogenic masterpiece of civil engineering was built in the 1930s and spans over 700 feet in length. Its center arch spans 360 feet and sits 260 above the coastline. The Bixby Bridge is the turn-around location for the Big Sur Highway 1 North adventure tour.
