This route will take you to one of the rarely visited, yet most scenic peaks in the Taylor Park area. Leaving from Pitkin, you will wind your way along Quartz Creek as you climb Cumberland Pass to 12,015ft. There is a fantastic picture opportunity in from of the Cumberland Pass sign with beautiful mountains in the backdrop.
Just as quickly as you climbed, you will drop down the other side of Cumberland Pass and make your way towards Tin Cup. Just short of Tin Cup, you will turn down Slaughterhouse Gulch. This trail will take you into the wide open valley of Union Park. You will pass through old grazing areas and working pens that have been used by local ranchers for generations.
After passing by the working pens, you will make your way along Cross Creek and begin the climb up to the top of Cross Mountain where you will enjoy 360 degree vistas of the beautiful Colorado Rockies!
Finally, you will wind your way back down through Union Park, over to the Taylor Park Trading Post, and pass through the ghost town of Tin Cup as you return to Pitkin!
