OVERVIEW

Go on an adventure through the unchanged land of The Old West. Parkfield, CA is renowned as the “Earthquake Capital of the World.” You’ll visit this very small community located in Monterey County, alongside the San Andreas geo-fault line. The second half of this adventure tour escapes into Paso’s northeastern vineyards. Whether you are into wine or not, you are likely going to recognize these world-class vineyards.

This adventure goes back in time for a visit to the American Frontier and historical locations. On the way, you’ll pass the Paso Robles Municipal Airport. This airport was originally called the Estrella Army Airfield. Constructed in 1942; still used by our military and is home to the Estrella Warbirds Museum. The museum is dedicated to the restoration and preservation of military aircraft, military vehicles, memorabilia and those who flew and worked on military aircraft. Woodland Automobile Display is located within the museum. This display showcases vintage, classic, and historical vehicles, primarily focusing on racing vehicles. If you wish to tour the Museum and/or Display, then please contact us for advisable options.

This touring route parallels the Salinas River and takes a quick detour through the town of San Miguel. The historic Mission of San Miguel and the Rios Caledonia Adobe are worth viewing. The old Adobe building was built in the mid-1800s. Throughout early American history, the Adobe was used as a residence, ranch, inn, saloon and stage stop. Famous old west outlaws like Jesse James and the Dalton Brothers were said to hang out in the saloon and stir up trouble.

The scenic canyon road to Parkfield travels across open plains, tree-covered terrain and crosses over a major tectonic plate line. This is where the San Andreas fault is located, which divides the North American Plate and Pacific Plate. Enjoy a delicious meal at the Parkfield Cafe before heading back out on the trail.

The second half of this adventure tour is a leisurely drive through Paso Robles’ northeastern Vineyards. The seemingly endless sea of rolling hills, grapevines and sparse oak trees give a calming effect. You will have opportunities to visit many establishments and enjoy their ample hospitality. Remember, drinking and driving is punishable by law. Be safe, have fun and enjoy the ride!
