Riding a snowmobile on groomed snowmobile trails or off trail on snowy or icy terrain.
Outfitters provide a suggested route, trail map, and list of sites/attractions to riders who want to adventure on their own.
Your destination on this fun-for-the-whole-family snowmobile tour is the alpine meadow on top of Greenie Peak. Get ready to climb from an elevation of 8,750 feet at base camp up a groomed trail (former mining roads) to 11,200 feet—with gorgeous views of the Carlson National Forest along the way.
Once you reach Greenie Peak and take in the panoramic vista of New Mexico and Colorado, there’s time for some free exploration. Or relax in the A-frame warming hut by the fire that will be started by your experienced and highly trained guide, guaranteed to be a snowmobiling enthusiast.
The 2.5-hour Greenie Peak loop (typically 30 miles, depending on snow conditions) takes you 10 miles up to Greenie Peak, 10 miles over to Sawmill Road, and 10 miles back to town. You’ll leave from Mallette Park and head up to Trail Canyon, which is full of twists and turns as well as tall pines, spruce, and aspens. Look out for wildlife, including elk and deer, and more elusive bobcats, cougars, and black bears.
You’ll park at Weezie’s Wild Rides and take a quick shuttle ride to the trailhead, where your latest-model Polaris snowmobile rentals will be waiting for you. Have a large family or group? No problem! Weezie’s has 25 snowmobiles that can accommodate both single and double riders.
The Greenie Peak Snowmobile Tour lasts 2.5 hours and departs at 9am and 1pm daily.
