Riding a snowmobile on groomed snowmobile trails or off trail on snowy or icy terrain.
Outfitters provide a suggested route, trail map, and list of sites/attractions to riders who want to adventure on their own.
Consider yourself a sledneck? Have lots of experience with off-trail snowmobiling? Sounds like you might be ready for the self-guided Ride to the Sky Backcountry Adventure!
You’ll start in the Albany Lodge rental room where you’ll gear up before a team member debriefs you on safety measures, trail conditions, avalanche risk, and any potential weather issues that could affect your ride. A brand-new Polaris snowmobile will take you directly onto the trails from your lodge or cabin during your stay — or you’re welcome to just visit for the day and enjoy a single day of riding.
With more than 2 million acres at the base of the Wyoming Rocky Mountains just waiting to be explored and some of the nation’s most reliable snow conditions (averaging 380 inches annually), the Medicine Bow Routt National Forest is one of the most highly prized snowmobiling regions in the country. The area’s incredible mix of terrain and varying elevations will give you ample opportunity to make your ride as challenging as you want it to be. Throughout the day, you’ll be guaranteed gorgeous vistas, including the astonishing view from Libby Flats, where you can see all the way to Colorado and Utah on a clear day. You might also catch glimpses of wolves, moose, marmots, big horn sheep and other wildlife.
After all that exhilarating riding, you’ll be ready for the delicious dinner options at Albany Lodge Restaurant. Choose from an assortment of pizzas, steaks, burgers, or the famous mac-n-cheese as you rehash the day’s highlights with your friends — and talk about what you want to tackle tomorrow.
New offering! For an added fee, you can easily capture video of your incredible experience. Albany Lodge offers 360-degree cameras mounted on your snowmobile. At the end of your ride, you’ll receive a digital download that you can share with family and friends.
