Happy Trails Rental operates out of Johnson Valley Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Park, located in Southern California Mojave desert. The area is known as a mecca for off-road enthusiasts and outdoor adventure seekers. This 100,000-acre playground of open trails includes varied landscape punctuated by vast valleys, sand dunes, large dry lake beds, sandy washes, and massive rocky buttes. Johnson Valley lays just North of the San Bernardino Mountains in the Mojave high desert region with an average elevation of more than 3,000 feet. Vegetation consists mostly of Joshua trees, creosote scrub, and wild flowers that bloom with a rainbow of color in the spring time. Johnson Valley OHV Park offers riding adventures for every skill level. The most famous spot is the Southeast area by Means Dry Lake, where once a year the desert is transformed by over 30,000 plus spectators and racers for the world famous “King Of The Hammers” race events. A week-long spectacular motorsports event that turns the desert into a small city known as Hammer Town. The popular Sand Hill is also located here and a great place to test your machines raw power. Johnson Valley OHV Park is also a short drive from Big Bear Lake and all of Big Bear activities like skiing, boating/kayaking, hiking, and great dining. Parts of the Pacific Crest trail are within 20 minutes of Johnson Valley OHV Park.

The southeast portion of the riding area offers a large mass of hills known to the rock crawler worldwide as the “Hammers.” This field is for experts and has gained the attention of off-roaders in recent years through an event called “King of the Hammers,” experts only need to apply. North of the Hammers offers a quality riding experience for novice and intermediate riders and some small dune riding experience. There are two car/truck courses for racing in the north-central and western portions of the valley. Anderson Dry Lake on the western boundary of the area is used for casual riding for intermediate and novice riders. It is popular with off-roaders. The butte boasts areas with small rolling hills for the novice, rocky ridges for the more experienced riders, huge rock structures for the rock crawlers and is a popular place for motorcycle trials events.

"I was visiting family in California and wanted to do something fun and adventurous. We stayed the weekend in Big Bear and discovered there were dune buggy rentals in the desert at Happy Trail Rental. So excited we found them. We were extremely impressed with the machines and the beautiful scenery. We followed pre-programmed routes on a GPS device and had a blast. The weather was perfect and the skies were dark blue. I can't wait to go back home to North Carolina and share my desert stories with all of my friends." -Kolleen F. Durham, NC
"Ben and Kerry are going to kill it! Great business and much needed in the area. I've been wanting to go "off-road" ever since moving to California 20 years ago and finally had the opportunity when my mom came into town for a visit. They are VERY friendly and did a great job of navigating us to the spot. They took us out with them at first and then sent us off on our own for a whole day of great terrain riding. The area has areas where you can test your speed limits as well as steeper and more challenging rocky slopes. We packed a lunch for ourselves, miraculously found some shade to eat in and made a great day of it! Will rent again for sure. These machines are incredible!"
